Hang up the bunting, put on your party hat and crack open that bottle of finest Libyan wine that you’ve been hiding under the sink for a special occasion that never comes (until now).
That’s right, I’ve been to see a film! “Paul” to be precise.
You’ll need to forgive me, as I’m a bit rusty with this reviewing lark, so allow me to just cut straight to the chase:
Plot summary:
Alien. Comic book nerds. Road trip. Knob gags. Car chases. References to other films.
Rating:
I liked it!
See, I told you I was out of practice.
Sure, Paul probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is hugely entertaining if you just go along for the ride. Throughout there are a lot of references to classic sci-fi films such as Star Wars, Aliens, Predator and Close Encounters to name just a few, as well as Star Trek, Indiana Jones and probably a whole heap more that I missed. While you don’t have to have seen any of those, it’d probably helps enormously if you have.
Jane Lynch is also in it. You know, the Jane Lynch who seems to appear in every single frick’n Hollywood comedy film these days. Just how she manages to make every one of her characters the same boggles my mind. Still, don’t let that put you off. You can do far worse than watching Paul.
8/10.
