The Proposal

Ok, so we know that he's not really steering the boat sharply, but couldn't they have at least given him a pretend steering wheel in that shot?!

Van Wilder pretends to turn the boat sharply with his imaginary steering wheel (slow-mo the trailer!)

Did you see the football last night?
Do you think Bugatti should keep making Veyrons?
Which of Keeley’s norks is your favourite? Left or right?
Want to pull my finger?

Is that suitably manly enough to make up for me watching The Proposal at the cinema last week? Just for the record, I didn’t actually pay to go see it as it was a free screening. Honest!

But anyway. Watching Van Wilder and Sandra Bullock in a soppy rom-com chick-flick wouldn’t be my normal choice for a film. I didn’t think there would be any car chases or explosions for starters. And I wasn’t wrong. There wasn’t even a small shoot out.

Instead, Sandra Bullock works as a fearsome publisher. Everyone, including her assistant (Van Wilder) is scared of her. When she’s told that she’s going to get deported from the United States back to Canada, she lies that she’s about to get married to Van Wilder. He agrees under the condition that he gets a big promotion and quick divorce in return. Cue hilarity of them getting to know each other to fool the Immigration dude. I bet you can’t guess what happens in the end…

It’s generally predictable and sometimes highly implausible, formulaic and really quite forgetable. But it’s entertaining enough in brainless kinda way and both main characters are pretty likeable. Plus you almost get to see Sandra Bullocks jubblies, so it’s not entirely bad.

6.5/10.

Oh, I almost forgot: No. Can’t afford one regardless. Left. Parp.
