The Prestige

Posted in Films

I was saying last night that 2006 has been pretty damn good year as far as movies go.  Fortunately, The Prestige doesn’t spoil this trend.

It’s basically about two magicians who become rivals and try to outdo each other whilst in The Prestigesearch of the ultimate illusion.  You’d expect it to be a comedy involving Paul Daniels and Geoffrey Durham wouldn’t you, but no.

It’s a dark and twisty thriller that although not entirely unpredictable, will leave you with a lot to think about afterwards.  If you’re looking for a ‘leave-your-brain-at-the-door’ movie - this isn’t it.

The Prestige is just a smidge too drawn out in places, but there’s normally a good reason.  Basically, it’s a humdinger of a film - but then I would say that, since I love films like ‘The Sting’.  Just breathe it in, this is real cinema.

We can only hope that Hugh Jackman doesn’t go back to making shite like X-Men 3 and Van Helsing as he can blatantly do better when he tries.

Oh, and if you’re feeling particularly energetic, read my very good friend Andrew’s much more in depth review!  You know you want to, go awwwwwn. You will, you will, you will. 9/10
