Can I just start off by saying that I really enjoyed watching The Day the Earth Stood Still?

"That's weird. The machine seems to have broken after the control question about your Oscar hopes."
Well I could, but I’d be totally lying because it was sh…
…ockingly bad.
So yeah, I saw The Day the Earth Stood Still a few weeks ago. Ever since I’ve been wondering what to write about it, other than a one word review, simply consisting of the word “b*ll*cks”. You see it’s complete and utter shash, which was a shame, as it started off well – that new Orange advert with Dennis Hopper was really quite good. But then the film started and things slowly went down hill from there.
Keanu Reeves is basically an emotionless alien who comes to Earth to save the planet from the human race, for shall we say, environmental reasons. And that’s it. I know, there’s not been a plot that thin and weak since Quantum of Solace. Whether Keanu actually intended his character, Klaatu, to be emotionless or not is another matter. When you don’t see an expression that scores anything more than 1 on the Kean-u-meter, it’s pretty impossible to tell to be honest.
Pad the rest out with some generic government and army dudes, some annoying vomit inducing stepmum/son relationship crap and a bucket load of CGI (even for stuff that didn’t need to be) and you’ve got the whole movie.
…and then there’s the product placement. One of my pet hates and it’s not even subtle. There’s not been such blatant advertising in a film since, errr, Quantum of Solace again as it happens.
Anyway, there we go… TDTESS was the final film of the year and it was just a bit rubbish. I also hadn’t realised until now that the original is actually on my top 250 list too. That should be fun..!
3/10.

That’s really quite, errr, random! Is that supposed to be William Shatner declaring his love for Keanu’s sausage?
Please review The Breakup….
Yes I know, I just don’t shut up, but I’m bored, and my blogfans are ignoring me all over the damned place…
Plus I had to suffer through it… other people should as well… Wait… what I meant to say was, I thought it was wonderful & need to share the utter joy I experienced upon watching it
Man I love Robot Chicken. Thanks for that Tiamat.
The film really was rather pants wasn’t it. The more I think about it the harder it is to come up with something good to say about it.
My pleasure. Robot Chicken is teh awesome…. C should catch up, & C, yes, that is supposed to be shatner, I prefer Walkin’s cameo though. I like the lil intro
“my name is neo and I’m going to beat you… robots
my name is Constantine and I’m going to defeat you… demon
I’m the guy from Speed and I’m going to stop you.. Famous character actor, Dennis Hoffman”
Which is pretty well how I see his acting… I think its because he either acts like a giant piece of wood, or like he’s still in Bill & Ted… He just can’t do anything else
Robot Chicken has totally passed me by! I’m guessing that’s on Sky TV over here, which I don’t have.
Thats what the interweb is for…
Also, do you call people who’ve driven while drunk “Drink-drivers”??
Aye, dr(i|u)nk drivers. Strange thing to ask?
I’m strange what can I say…. drink drivers sounds silly… like there are people out driving around in martini glasses passing people in tumblers of rum & coke
