Apparently in 2018, The Salvation Army have their work cut out.
I still remember watching the The Terminator for the first time on video late one night with the lights off when I was a kid. It scared the bejesus out of me. Judgment Day on the other hand, wasn’t as dark and creepy and had more humour and a bigger budget, but it was still a fine action sci-fi film. As for the third… well, let’s just pretend it never happened, shall we?
Twenty years on from my first Terminator encounter, I went to see the fourth in the series… Terminator Salvation. Whilst I can happily say that it’s better than Rise of the Machines, I’d still have to say that I could’ve probably done without it. It’s not tense and menacing enough to be on a par with the original and it just doesn’t have the same enjoyment level of Judgment Day. It’s not a bad film by any means, it’s just not a great one either.
Yeah, it’s watchable enough and has some decent action sequences, but the story line is a bit rubbish and there isn’t much sense of impending danger. I also didn’t totally understand why Skynet had resorted to taking old ladies hostage instead of ripping them to shreds with an Uzi 9mm. Anyone would think that sort of caper isn’t the done thing in 12A films. Tcha. Censors, eh.
7/10.
Oh, and I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t wondering throughout Terminator Salvation exactly which scene it was that made Christian Bale totally wig out like a complete tool in that now infamous clip (nsfw) on Youtube. Any ideas?
