The word on the street was that Role Models was a) hilarious and b) chock full of jubblies.

Frankly, that was enough for me. I bought a ticket.

"Never stare at the boobies, kid."

So, Danny (Paul Rudd of 40 Year Old Virgin fame) is a bit of a loser who has become a bit disillusioned with his dead end job. That’s not his only problem though, after he gets dumped by his girlfriend Beth (Elizabeth Banks of 40 Year Old Virgin fame), his day becomes even worse when he gets himself arrested, along with his loser buddy Stifler.

Facing a choice of either 30 days in jail or 150 hours community service under the supervision of Gayle (Jane Lynch of 40 Year Old Virgin fame), the duo choose the 150 hours to avoid going to the state pen. They get quickly signed up to the ‘Sturdy Wings’ programme, a sort of father figure / ‘role model’ initiative for weird kids.

And there we have it, two unlikely mentors for two very different kids. Cue hilarity…

Or not. Because it’s crap.

I dunno. Perhaps the humour was just a bit too subtle for me in places (to the point of being undetectable). Perhaps it’s one of those films that take a couple of viewings before you really appreciate it. Or, perhaps, as I’m tending to favour, it just wasn’t that funny. You see, comedy is a curious thing. Dress a man in a Minotaur costume and get zero laughs. Dress a man in a Mexican donut costume and hit comedy gold. Go figure.

If anyone asks you then a) no, it’s not hilarious at all and b) two pairs dude. Just two pairs.

Ok ok, there are a few chuckles, but I reckon Role Models should’ve gone straight to DVD. 4.5/10.
