No hablo Español!

Posted in General

I went on holiday the other week to sunny Spain.

Me on the beach in BarbateYes, you did read that correctly:
Me. Holiday. Sun. Spain

Hard to believe those four words in the same sentence. I know you probably don’t believe me, so I’ll prove it.  Here’s me.  On Barbate beach.  Looking all thoughtful.

What? You still don’t believe eh?  Yes, I know that could be ANY beach and that could be ANYONE…  Oooh, you big cynic you.

If you’re remotely interested in seeing a couple more of my holiday snaps, please feel free to read on - I’ll try not to bore you too much.  Otherwise, if the thought of looking at someone elses holiday photos fills you with dread, it’s probably best to do something else, like play this for a bit.

Otherwise, we’ll begin…

Sunset in Barbate

Wow, you’re still here.  Hello to you.  It’s not too late to play that game I linked to earlier by the way.  It’s really quite addictive.  I got 55k odd if you want to try and whoop my ass.

But anyway, I’m rambling so - Spain.

Firstly, I should just say a massive thanks to my mate Andrew and his parents for letting us stay in their villa.  ‘Twas very kind.  Thank you - I haven’t been on holiday in years.

Man from Del MonteIt’s been so long in fact, that I’d forgotten what people actually wear on holiday in hot countries.  I scratched my head for a while, and wondered if I should go dressed as the Man from Del Monte.

I said “yes”.

The first day was a bit of a lazy day. We had quite a nice barbecue and basically vegged in front of the pool.

The day after, we started to run into a tiny problem: getting lost.  Quite a lot.  But at least we saw a bit of Spain we wouldn’t otherwise have seen - which mainly involved lots of bull

Talking of getting lost, I still don’t understand why there doesn’t seem to be consecutive junction numbers on motorways?  That just seemed plain odd.  Anyway.

Eventually we arrived in an old white town called Arcos, only about 15 miles down the road from the villa.  It only took us about 5 hours to get there, so we did quite well that day.  There were people driving down very narrow, very hilly streets at 100 miles an hour who were quite clearly affected by the insanely hot weather.  The views though were brill…

The authentic Spanish paella was quite tasty too… even if it did have those huge mussels and bulgy eyed prawns in it.

We didn’t really take a picture of everything we ate. Honest.

Well that’s quite enough for now I think.  I’m surprised you got this far!  As a reward, why not play a different game to keep you occupied whilst I write a little something about the next leg of the holiday - Gibraltar…
