New Lynx Cans

Posted in General

[edit]  I’ve just tweaked this post somewhat since I first posted it.  Perhaps I was a originally a little rude.  Perhaps not.  But more importantly, I don’t want to get my broke ass sued by a company with quite a lot of money.  However, I’m hopefully still entitled to an opinion, so here goes… [/edit]

New Lynx can designI dunno if anyone has used the new style Lynx deodorant cans or not, but who on Earth thought that would be a good design?

1) If you need instructions printed on the can about how to use an aerosol - that’s not a good design.

2) If when you use it, the spray actually just dribbles down the side of the can - that’s not a good design (see picture!).

3) If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

If that wasn’t bad enough, that plastic material the new over-designed lid is made from has a horrible feel.

The main problem is that when you use it, the top occassionally twists back up, causing it to spray down the side of the can and over your hand.  And sometimes, the lid just won’t twist down far enough without you having to resort to a frenzied twisting session to get the damn thing down.

It’s a really horrible piece of over-design by Unilever, so no more Lynx for me.

The new advert is funny though! But I guess that doesn’t matter if all you end up with is slightly sticky but nice smelling hands!!!

Renaming planets really gets your goat and over-designed products really get mine!

At some point, there must’ve been a meeting at Lynx HQ where a load of suits sat down with the new prototype. Without actually using it, they’ve all looked at it and said…

“Well it looks pretty. Let’s make 10 billion of them. Right. Any other business chaps?”

“Yes boss, about that advert with the hot bird in… can we see that just one more time?”

Well amazingly, it seems people from Unilever are indeed reading this… and some people called Seymour Powell, who I’m guessing are perhaps the “(over)design” company responsible. Might be wrong on that though.

    *waves*

It looks like I’m not the only one who thinks your new can is a load of rubbish!

    [edit]…and here too.[/edit]

I agree it’s a poor design, but not for the reasons you gave.
The button is far too big, and makes it very hard to accurately aim the spray. The old design enabled you to feel that the nozzle was in line with your finger. The new design button covers about 120 degrees, meaning you have no idea where the spray is going to go without looking, and then you end up with the spray in your face/eyes. Not good. The old type slide top was good, as the button was small enough for you to know by feel that the spray was going to go in-line with where your finger pointed.

Someone mentioned the new can actually contains less aswell - but I haven’t got an old can to verify that.

Yeah I agree, when it’s dark first thing in the morning you have no idea which direction the nozzle is facing. Seems like Unilever are sticking with it though for some odd reason. Bizarre.

    I disagree.
I think it is a good design.
But i do think that the old classic pull off lid is so much easier.
I bought my dad a can and he pulled th twister off cuz he thort it was a lid.
