Microsoft Windows Vista - “Security”
I do find Microsoft quotes like this are semi amusing. This time in relation to delays for the Windows Vista release:
“Efforts to improve security in the new system were largely behind the delay, Microsoft said.”
Right. So they’ve written the new OS, and only now they’ve just realised that there’s loads of security holes where they need to bodge the code accordingly. Great! Perhaps if they were coding it properly in the first place, they wouldn’t need to fix these security problems.
But, security is poor in every new release of Windows. It’s a bit of a tradition. Take a look at Microsoft’s Secunia track record:
Windows 95. 7 advisories. 3 were never fixed.
Windows 98 Second Edition. 30 advisories. 3 were never fixed. 1 was half fixed.
Windows 2000 Pro. 108 advisories. 19 still not fixed!
Windows XP Pro. 130 advisories. 28 still not fixed!
In fact, there’s more advisories with each new release. Even taking into account Secunia’s lesser popularity back in Windows 95’s heyday, it’s still a fookin’ piss poor track record.
And, this is just Windows we’re talking… let’s not even get started on the 95 advisories purely for Internet Explorer 6 (25 still outstanding).
So what’s my point? Well, the longer Microsoft delays the release of Vista, the longer the world is spared of an even more insecure, buggy, virus spreading piece of shoddily written crap from Microshit. I think everyone will drink to that. Hurrah!
Rant over.
