Hit Girl (supplied complete with wifi antenna)

If you’re a Daily Mail reader, you’ll probably be foaming at the mouth about Kick Ass, a superhero film featuring an 11 year old assassin amongst its characters. Chances are, you won’t have actually gone to the cinema to watch the film to make up your own mind, but you’ll still be full of outrage all the same that it simply exists in the first place.

Have a read of their Kick Ass review, where they seem to read waaaaay too much into the whole thing. Did they watch a differently edited version to the one the rest of the world is seeing perhaps? Ironically enough, most of the hype they talk about in that review will have been generated by the Mail itself, by making out that Kick Ass is a far more ‘controversial’ film than it actually is or was ever intended to be.

Just to summarize:
It’s a superhero film.
It’s a bit daft.
It’s entertaining for two hours.
It’s funny in places.
It’s got “McLovin” in it for crying out loud!
…but it’s also meant for adults, not for a CBeebies audience.

OK, I can see how it might be a little weird seeing a potty mouthed 11 year old girl beating grown men up at first, but once you get past that, Kick Ass is really quite enjoyable. Fortunately most people possess an amazing super-power of their own that the Daily Mail reviewer clearly lacks… the ability to separate fiction from reality.

8/10 (including a bonus half point for pissing the Daily Mail off!).
