Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2 perhaps isn't as good as the original, but... hey, it's got cheerleaders in it!

I know I’m probably going to get lynched by my more superhero-loving fellow cinema-goers here, but I’ll have to say that I didn’t think that Iron Man 2 was as good as the original. Probably blasphemy I know, sorry dudes.

Saying that, the original Iron Man film did set the bar quite high for being just so enormously enjoyable, so I did kinda have high hopes for Iron Man 2 being at least an equal sequel.

Just like the first, people are (mostly) super clever and super human. One man can build an army of super high-tech robots with nothing more than a set of Allen keys and an electrical screwdriver, and another can jump out of an aeroplane, rocket towards earth at Mach 6, stop instantly and still walk away without turning himself into a giant liquidised super-pizza in a metal suit. But it is a superhero film after all, so who cares about that?

Robert Downey Jr makes the first film work. He’s just cool and charismatic. In Iron Man 2 though, I dunno, he just seemed to be bordering on being a bit of a smug git. Combine that with a super-whiny Gwyneth Paltrow who just makes me want to rip my own arm off, just so that I’ve got something to throw at her, and Iron Man 2 quickly seemed to lack that certain special something from the original.

It’s not Marvel-ous *ba-boom tish*, but it’s still pretty good fun. You can’t really say it’s lacking in plot, as there’s always stuff going on. And frankly, Iron Man 2 is still better than 95% of other superhero films you’ll see.

Plus, there’s those cheerleaders… now they’re super.

7.5/10.

  1. Ok I’ll agree, not as good as the first one but still a great movie. And yeah we were loving the cheerleaders as well…plus old Scarlett thingy in a leather catsuit didn’t hurt matters either.
