Internet World 2007

Posted in General

I spent yesterday at Internet World ‘07 at Earls Court for work.Internet World

It was much better than the British Toy Fair I went to the other month. Perhaps it was because I snagged some free stuff this time?

Google gave everyone attending their early morning Adwords seminar a nice little goodie bag. And, some company called D&B were even more generous, with goodie bags containing things like USB drives, pens, radios, torches and other random bits and bobs. There was a considerable amount of scavenging going on there…

But of course, it wasn’t all freebies. There was some serious work to be done too…

I was quite disappointed with some of the seminars. I can’t say I learned an awful lot from some of them. I sat in on a bulk email session, with the speaker (from an email marketing company of course) talking about how email is the best form of contact with existing/potential customers. The very next session I go to, the speaker from a direct mail copywriting company declares how email is a dead duck and that direct mail marketing is the way to go.

The reality will be somewhere in between, but it was more than obvious that you had to take some of the advice given with a large pinch of salt.

What else? Errm. I’m not quite sure why a Honda F1 car was there, but it looked nice. There was also a giant mouse wandering around promoting something. Ho-hum.

Otherwise, what a long day. I know it doesn’t sound particularly hard work, but it really was… honest.

Qube Stand

Qube had a free roulette table, so it would’ve been rude not to have a, err, quick go on that, wouldn’t it?

…and to round the day off, I managed to catch The Hogwart’s Express home from King’s Cross, which was nice. Magic.

…plus booth babes! Definite plus. Glad it didn’t turn out to be as bad as you were expecting, and hey freebies never hurt either.
