Gibraltar Rocks!

Rock of Gibraltar

If you didn’t read my last post about my holiday to Spain, don’t worry, I’ll bring you up to speed in a “Previously, on Blogalism” style flashback.

Basically, it all ended on a bit of a cliffhanger.  I was being chased by Spanish police after being framed for a crime that I didn’t commit.  After spending an evening hiding out in a seedy Spanish strip joint, cunningly disguised as a pole dancer named ”Salma”, I decided to leave the country with all the ill-gotten gains that had been stuck down my thong that night and make a dash for the Gibraltar border.

If you did read my last post, errr, this is what happened after we’d had the rather nice paella.

So off we went to Gibraltar.

Personally, I found it quite weird how there’s this little slice of home stuck onto the end of southern Spain.  In the space of a few hundred yards, you walk from the positively Spanish “Avenida Príncipe de Asturias”, through passport control, and then down the positively British “Winston Churchill Avenue”.  Once you get into the city centre, you could be forgiven for thinking you were back in good ol’ Blighty.  Shops, signs and even the buttons that you press when you want to cross the road are all very familiar.

The Ceremony of the KeysAs we walked through the town, we got caught up with the weekly ”Ceremony of the Keys“… which was nice.

Over on the picture to the right, I’m at the back, marching in time like a total spoon.

Fortunately for me though, I seem to have *just* missed the frame, so I’ll have to let you imagine that all for yourselves.  Shame.

The picture at the top of this post is of course the famous “Rock of Gibraltar”, (taken from the middle of the runaway that you cross immediately after you go through passport control).

There’s a cable car up to the peak, but not being fans of heights we went for the guided mini-bus tour to the top instead.

The Rock of Gibraltar is where the whole Jeep sequence at the start of “The Living Daylights” was filmed.  The roads up to the top are really as hairy as they look in that clip, especially when you’re being driven around in a mini-bus at high speeds with a broken seat belt.

Anyway, we saw the slightly eerie caves and tunnels inside the Rock…

The monkey’s/apes that live on it - who smell very much of arse (and yes, that is me at the very moment realising just how much they pong of bottom)…

Then once you’re at the top, you can see Africa - or Morocco if you’re being pedantic.  It’s not often you can see two continents / three countries side by side though.

And if you’re really interested, another pic looking down to where the picture at the very beginning of this post was taken.  Gibraltar is in the foreground, the middle of the runway (I mentioned earlier) and Spain.

Phew. So that we have it, that was a day in Gibraltar

There could only be one destination after that little outing… Morocco.

Soooo, this strip joint you mentioned!?!?!? Blogalism sounds like one hell of a show, I bet it’s on one of those filthy cable channels like HBO. They peddle all kinds of smut…er so I have heard.

You took some great pictures here, the cave ones are really rather cool and the monkeys, apart from smelling of arse, came out really well.

Looking forward to part three as the chase takes us to the dark and dangerous country of Morocco…tune in next week, same time, same channel, for more exciting adventures with Blogalism!!!
