Body of Lies

Body of Lies

I think I can see my house!

Cor blimey, it’s been bloomin’ ages since I’ve done any blogging. What with stuff going on at work, a slight dry spell at the cinema and, ahem, other distractions, I just seem to have found other things to do lately.

Anyway, as a bit of a break from watching zelebrities in the jungle, I did (somehow) manage to leave the house and watch Body of Lies the other week. And you know what? It was…

…well, it was a bit “meh”.

Normally, I’d at least have some kind of feeble attempt at justifying why I’d call a film “meh”, but I’m having a problem doing that with Body of Lies. You see, it should’ve been a cracking film. It had the right ingredients when you think about it:

  • Good actors – check.
  • Great director – check.
  • Decent plot – check.
  • Lots of action – check.
  • Explosions – check.
  • Borderline plausible technology – check.
  • Martina Navratilova – Czech – Errr, wait, no she’s in something else right now isn’t she.

Yet somehow, when the final credits roll, you realise that the sum of its parts strangely haven’t formed a greater whole. Don’t get me wrong, Body of Lies is entertaining enough for a couple of hours, and even if you don’t follow the finer points of the plot it’s still fairly easy to get the general gist of what’s happening. But for some reason it just lacks a certain je ne sais quoi.

Or perhaps it was just “meh” because there weren’t any boobies. Probably a good thing Martina Navratilova wasn’t in it then in that case, eh.

6.5/10.

Oh, and whilst I was looking for a suitable related picture to add to this post, I watched the trailer again. Is it just my eyes or are these two consecutive frames slightly… wrong?

Body of Lies

Frame 1: Take aim!

Who moved that truck?

Frame 2: Fire at the magic switcheroo trucks!

…and these two look a bit suspect to me aswell, but that’s just being picky. Oh, and did you notice how I didn’t even make one Team America comparison above? Makes a change for me!

  1. I agree with both you and Paul on this one. It was a Meh film all round. Do you agree that the trailer told a completely different story to the actually film?

  2. Not only was it Meh it was also Pah!!
Interesting spot on the trailer shots….

  3. “Cor blimey, it’s been bloomin’ ages ”

That is one of the most british sounding phrases I’ve ever seen! :P
