Feist - 1234 Video

Posted in Music

I’m loving the video to the song from that Ipod Nano advert (Feist - “1234″).

It’s pretty cool and shot all in one take:

…and the “making of” video if your interested. Quite nice how they do the beginning and end without any camera trickery:

3:10 to Yuma

Posted in Films

I saw 3:10 to Yuma the other day. I know, I don’t see a movie for ages and then I go and see two in 1 week. They come along like buses. Shoot ‘Em Up was the night bus to Slough which smells faintly of urine and vomit, and the 3:10 to Yuma - well, that might aswell just be the 3:10 to Yuma.

3:10 to Yuma

Anyway, 3:10 is an old fashioned western. The gist of the story is that when bad guy Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) gets arrested, a very short of cash Dan Evans (Christian Bale) volunteers to help put Wade onto the 3:10 to Yuma to send him off to jail. In return he’d get a nice reward that’d solve all his financial problems. The problem is, Wades gang want their esteemed leader back and will do pretty much anything to rescue him from being well hung. Oooh-errr.

The storyline is a touch slow and plodding in a few places, but it does nicely develop the main characters and the relationships between them. Quite how a man with a wooden leg jumps between buildings is also quite beyond me, but that’s just me being picky.

Overall though, I enjoyed it. But then I really used to like playing “The Wild Bunch” on the Amstrad, which probably says it all.

Perhaps we’ll get a few more ‘modern traditional’ westerns in the next few years? I hope so.  Russell Crowe is a total willy though.

8/10.

Shoot ‘Em Up

Posted in Films

Shoot ‘Em UpOooh, long time no blog.  Whoops.

Anyway, I watched Shoot ‘Em Up earlier this week.  Whilst we were hanging around after the film had finished, another film-goer walked by and commented: “that was fookin’ terrible”.

That’s right, they called it “Fookin’ terrible”.

Well that pretty much sums it up for me too - which leaves me with a bit of a problem.  You see, calling something “Fookin’ terrible” isn’t going to be considered an in-depth review by anyone.

So with my opinion tainted, what I need is an unbiased, honest review of Shoot ‘Em Up.  In fact, we need a machine to deliver the facts, and not let emotions get in the way of in-depth movie reviewing.

So without further ado, please step forward “Bertha”…
