Just one measly half decent pic from last nights storm chase. I think I need to get myself one of these! In the mean time tho, I’ll make do with this…

Quite often, you watch a movie and notice a tiny plot hole. But, for the sake of enjoying the film you overlook it. It is only a story after all.
Sometimes, you might notice a couple of plot holes. In the real world, people would surely have picked up on these problems if the events were genuinely unfoldning. But, you again remember: This is just a movie. A work of fiction. So, you again choose to overlook them and perhaps have a quick moan about them after it’s finished.
Which brings us nicely to Superman Returns, which opts to push the boundaries and give us an enormously-massive leaky plot bucket. Before you know it, the plot has seeped out and is all over the cinemas floor. I won’t give any spoilers, but I’m sure if you watch it (best to take your wellies), you’ll see what I mean.
It’s a shame really, because other than that, it wouldn’t have been half bad. Kevin Spacey is the star, there are quite a few LOL moments, the action is solid, the effects are brill, Richard Branson makes a cameo appearance and the basic premise of the plot is good (albeit sloppily executed).
Would I recommend it? Ummm, I wouldn’t say “no”, but I would say, “go see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 instead”. 6/10.

It’s been a while since I’ve looked forward to seeing a film, but I just couldn’t help it with POTC2. I even watched the original again over the weekend just so that I was limbered up properly! (All the necessary background bits are explained quite early on in the second film, but I still think it helped having the first story and characters fresh in my mind) Anyway…
Is it any good? Yup. Arrrr, it’s absolutely crackin’ m’hearties!
It’s two and half hours long though, so be prepared. But… I would’ve happily sat through another half hour. The special effects are great, there’s a few good comedy moments, a helluvalotta action (top drawer Bruickheimer stuff) and quite a complicated plot.
I didn’t know at the time, but apparently there’s an extra scene after the end credits have rolled… so stick around. Hopefully catch that if/when I watch it again! Then, roll on Summer ‘07!
….and Keira Knightley. Goooood mornin’! 9/10
Oh, it’s also not all that long to go until National Talk Like a Pirate Day… “Arrrr, Jim lad!”
Superman Returns next. Hmmm, not looking forward to that quite as much!!
Don’t you just hate it when you watch a trailer for a film that looks really funny, but when you actually see the movie you’re left disappointed to find all the best bits were crammed into that two minute preview.
Fortunately, Over The Hedge is the reverse. The trailer makes the film look arse clenchingly bad, but it’s actually quite entertaining, visually very good and has it’s laugh out loud moments. It is quite short… but then most U rated films are.
Low expectations…? Perhaps. Still, if you leave the cinema feeling like you’ve been entertained for 80 minutes - you can’t really complain too much. 7/10.
The Hoodwinked trailer however looks quite funny….. so that’s bound to be crap then! Doh!
