Lucky Number Slevin

Posted in Films

It’s been a long time since I’ve watched a film at the cinema that’s really held my attention. With most films I see, half way through my mind normally wanders briefly to thinking about what time it is, whether I locked the car door or how my left arse cheek is going slowly numb.

Not this time. Lucky Number Slevin has a plot. I won’t give anything away, but it’s quite a complicated plot. After the first 30-45 minutes, you’ll probably be thinking… WTF is going on?! You just don’t really have that much time to think about either arse cheek.

Don’t panic though - concentrate and everything becomes clear. Saying that, I’d actually quite like to watch it again just to see if I missed anything.

If I’m honest, Morgan Freeman is one of my favourite actors and this is one of my favourite ‘genre’ of films. So perhaps I’m biased as this was right up my street from the opening credits.

Definitely watch it… just try not to concentrate on Lucy Liu’s wonky eye too much!

9.5/10.

Fake One Pound Coins - Part One

Posted in General

I’m not sure whether I’m just particularly unlucky when it comes to being passed counterfeit pound coins, or whether I just happen to notice them more often. Either way, the amount of dodgy one pound coins in circulation must be enormous (1% I’m told).

Anyway, how do you spot them? Well here’s a few good examples of bent coins. It’s easier than you might think, as fortunately counterfeiters aren’t the sharpest tools…

Nuisance Calls - Part Two

Posted in General

I haven’t had a single call from 02070546030 since I registered with the TPS. They may be a bunch of complete sockcookers, but at least they seem to respect the TPS list.

I never did find out who they are though as I never got to speak to a real person. A bit of Googling suggested it was Dialaphone or Orange, but I’m not sure. Any ideas anyone?

Final Destination 3

Posted in Films

I quite liked the first Final Destination film. I’d never even heard of it until we bought tickets for it. I obviously had no idea what kind of film to expect. It was gruesome, shocking and fingers-over-the-eyes cinema at times. It never attempted to be Oscar winning material, but was still entertaining in a sick kinda way.

The second FD film took the gorefest further. You knew the deaths were going to come, it was more of a case of trying to second guess just how it was going to happen each time. Again, sickly entertaining.

Final Destination 3 then… Having seen the two previous films, before you sit down, you know:

1. That the plot will probably be roughly the same again.
2. It’ll probably be very gruesome.
3. You probably won’t be able to guess how the characters are going to cark it.

So what do you get? Well, I don’t think it’s giving much away to say the plot is indeed very similar to the previous two films! It is also (shock! horror!) very gruesome.

The odd thing is, there’s more ‘death signposting’ in this film than the other two put together. It’s always very, very clear when someone is about to snuff it. Sadly, when it becomes so obvious it starts to feel very routine. You need something slightly more from the series but it never quite delivers.

On a positive note, it’s short enough to hold your attention and there’s a few gratuitious norks thrown in this time… which is never a bad thing, eh! 6/10

Level 42 - Retroglide

Posted in Music

So the new Level 42 album is going to be called “Retroglide” then. Hmmm! Sounds like a brand of arse lube to me.

Whatever the name, it better be fookin’ good. Especially since I’ve now got tickets to see them play live, not once, but twice later this year. Bring - it - on!!! All tour dates are on the official L42 website.

Oh, in case yer reading Bra - you STILL da man!! Get in!
